43% of Small Businesses Spend 6+ Hours Per Week in Social ...

COMMENTS

Very informative. Can anybody tell how to collect such stats for the niche related to any business? That will be very informative for the new folks like me.
I love these infographics!?
?
I think this info is relevant for both online and offline marketers. It's interesting that most of the focus is on Facebook and Twitter. I understand Facebook but it seems weird that businesses are focusing more time on Twitter then they are on Facebook or Blog content...?
?
I definitely think spending time/money on blog content would be prioritized above Twitter in particular...?
?
I guess it depends on the business too.
Your web content is very useful and full of impactful content for a small business owner. Thank you!
Hello from the Cambridge Innovation Center (Hubspot?s old haunt!) Yes, social media can seem like a ?time suck? to some CEOs and they may say that they want to spend less time on social media but this is about education - if you asked CEOs if they wanted to look and use alternate ways to participate in discussion, drive engagement, increase visibility and sales and address customer service then the response may not be ?we want to spend less time on this?. With regards to which channels, this is all about understanding your target audiences and being present where they are, so to Facebook or not to Facebook (ooh, we feel a blog post coming on) is about the your industry, your audiences and your objectives.
Great Infographic with a lot of information. Thank you, that was helpful.
Interesting numbers and engagingly set out. My question is: what measurable results / ROI are they getting back? Would be great to out the activity in context
Is this B-to-C or B-to-B, I know from running my own B-to-B business that I use Linkedin far more frequently than Facebook or Twitter.
I think that 1/3 CEO statistic can be interpreted in different ways. I thought it meant that the CEO or the proprietor specifically wanted to spend less time on social media, and maybe give the role to someone else or to outsource. I thought it meant that, currently, many owners and CEOs do the social media, but don't want it as part of their duties.

Beautiful infograph! It's a positive sign that so many SBs are willing to invest money into their social media presence and shows that they understand the importance of social features including social, search, and content marketing.?
?
I think the percentage number for SB's using Facebook as their primary social media tool is pretty much the norm, wondering how their personal website or blog activity plays into these numbers.
Again, another informative piece, graphically displayed of course, and current. Thanks.
wowhh nice informative graphics.... Thank you buddy for sharing these kind of attractive content

Delaying radiation therapy after hysterectomy ups risk of uterine ...

? Uterine Cancer news ? Oct 30, 2012

Waiting too long after a hysterectomy to begin radiation therapy may increase the risk of uterine cancer recurrence, according to a new study from researchers at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.

The study shows that for patients with uterine cancer not receiving chemotherapy, tumors were more likely to return if radiation therapy was delayed nine weeks or longer following surgery, with only 43 percent having relapse-free survival after five years.

By comparison, patients starting radiation treatment soon after surgery had a five-year relapse-free survival of 90 percent.

?Our data suggests that a shorter interval of time between hysterectomy and start of radiation treatment may be beneficial for patients,? says lead author Mohamed Elshaikh, M.D., senior staff physician in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Henry Ford Hospital.

Study results will be presented Monday, October 30 at the 54th Annual Meeting of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) in Boston.

Endometrial cancers mainly arise from the tissue lining the uterus. They are the most common gynecologic cancers in the US, with more than 43,000 women diagnosed and an estimated 7,950 dying from the disease in 2010, according to the National Cancer Institute.

A total hysterectomy (surgical removal of the uterus) is the most common approach for treatment of endometrial cancers.

To assess the impact of time between hysterectomy and the start of radiation treatment on tumor recurrence, Dr. Elshaikh and his colleagues conducted a retrospective study of patients who underwent surgery for uterine cancer between 1988 and 2010.

Of the 1,450 Henry Ford patients reviewed with stage I-III uterine cancer, 308 received radiation therapy without chemotherapy after hysterectomy with at least one year follow-up. The median age for patients was 65 and the median follow-up was six years.

About 75 percent of the study group started radiation therapy less than nine weeks after surgery, while the others began treatment nine weeks or more after surgery.

Among the study group, there were 43 cases where the cancer returned. Tumor recurrence was significantly associated with treatment delay of nine weeks or longer.

Along with Dr. Elshaikh, Henry Ford study co-authors are Richard Cattaneo II, M.D.; Gordon Jacobsen, MS; and Rabbie Hanna, M.D.

Study: Costs Rise, But Americans Happier With Auto Insurance

With initial damage estimates for Hurricane Sandy pegged at $20 billion or more, insurance companies are facing a very busy couple of weeks. But while they brace for massive payouts, agencies can take heart in one bit of very good news, courtesy of??J.D. Power and Associates' 2012 U.S. Auto Claims Satisfaction Study -- namely, that Americans have become more satisfied with their auto insurance companies, even as out-of-pocket costs have risen.

To reach those conclusions, Power surveyed over 12,508 insurance customers who had filed and settled claims within the past six months. The survey took place over an 11-month period, from November 2011 to September 2012.

(Power noted that the survey focused on customers whose vehicles were significantly damaged; those with damage to their car's glass or who only filed claims for roadside assistance were excluded. Stolen vehicles were also excluded.)

Survey participants were asked to rate satisfaction with their insurance company in six areas: "first notice of loss; service interaction; appraisal; repair process; rental experience; and settlement". Scores were doled out on a scale of 0 to 1,000. Here are the major takeaways:

  • Satisfaction improved by six points from last year: the average overall score for 2012 was?852.
  • When it comes to settlement -- arguably?the most important factor -- average scores were up nine points from 2011, resting at 846.
  • Interestingly, those who filed total-loss claims were even happier with their settlements: for them, scores were 16 points higher. That could be due to the fact that payouts for total losses were up an average of $690 from last year -- mostly because of sky-high used-car values.
  • Satisfaction might also be rising because the insured feel like the claims process is more transparent. This year,?64% of those surveyed said that their insurer offered ways to keep them informed of their claim's progress (via online updates and such). In 2011, that figure was 61%.
  • Curiously, satisfaction grew even as out-of-pocket expenses crept upward. On average, respondents paid $403 for deductibles, rentals, and other uncovered expenses, which is up?$26?from 2011.
  • America's favorite insurance company is Auto-Owners Insurance, which earned the highest overall score (887) for the fifth straight year. Rounding out the top five were Amica Mutual and Erie Insurance (tied at 876), and Automobile Club of?Southern California?and COUNTRY (tied at 874).
  • At the other end of the scale, Commerce was America's least-favorite agency, with a score of (781). Esurance fared slightly better (801), as did Encompass (820), 21st Century (821), and Mercury (824).
  • National heavy-hitters were all over the map: State Farm (868), Allstate (863), and Travelers (857) came in above the industry average of 852. Nationwide (848), GEICO (842), Progressive (842), and Farmers (838) didn't.

If you'd like a look at the management discussion of the J.D. Power report (which is less about rankings and more about consumer theory), you can find the PDF here.

And if you happen to live along the eastern coast of the U.S., we hope you're safe and sound. We also hope that you don't have too much need for your insurer, but if you do, we hope the claims process goes smoothly.

The Benefits of Online Christmas Shopping

I absolutely love to shop for gifts online throughout the year, but especially utilise this great tool during the holidays.? I don?t need to worry about driving to a store or shopping centre, looking for a parking space in the lots filled with cars, working my way through the crowds of people in the stores, trying to find what I am looking for, and then waiting for what feels like an eternity on one of the long checkout lines.? Instead, I stay in the comfort of my home office, surfing the internet for gifts that will be perfect for everyone in my family and for all of my friends.? I am not a big fan of shopping for holiday presents, so this method greatly reduces the level of stress I have to endure, and that is why I highly recommend it to everyone.

Find Great Deals and Free Shipping

Many online retailers that also have brick-and-mortar shops, as well as stores that are exclusively online, offer great deals during the holiday season.? Do not be the least bit surprised when, after shopping around and comparing prices for a bit, you realise that some of the gifts on your list are priced the same as retail locations, and sometimes even less.? And if you can grab a great deal that also offers free shipping that amounts to even more savings.? Not only did you not waste petrol money driving yourself to and from the stores you would need to go to, but you also do not need to pay for the potentially pricey shipping and handling fees often associated with online orders.

Some online stores offer promotional codes and special sales, so keep an eye out for the days that stores offer promotions such as ?20% off every item until Monday.?? These are especially common during the Christmas shopping season.? Sign up for emails from your favourite retailers to stay up-to-date on the latest discounts.

Surfing the Internet for Gift Ideas

When I?m stumped for gift ideas, I take to the internet to find some great suggestions for those on my list.? Many online stores track your search queries and then provide you with recommendations that you may also like.? For example, if you are searching for some video games for your nephew but you are not sure what game to purchase, searching for a game he already owns and enjoys will yield recommendations for similar games that would also make good matches.

You can also perform a general search using your favourite online search engine to find the perfect gift for your spouse, parent, child, friend, co-worker, etc.? Simply typing in a phrase such as ?Christmas gift ideas for wives? can yield many results that can help you on your way to finding the right gift.

Checking Product Reviews

Another benefit to shopping online is being able to read product reviews on just about anything.? Check the reviews on an item before purchasing it, to determine if it is as good as the seller is making it out to be, if it is exactly what you are looking for, or if many people have encountered problems with it.

Returning Items Bought Online

When purchasing items from the internet, make sure you are clear regarding a store?s return policy.? Check if you will be required to pay return shipping and handling, if you can return the product to the site?s corresponding brick-and-mortar locations, or if all sales are final.

Consider Shipping Times and Cost

While shopping online is usually very convenient because everything gets shipped to you, make sure you order your items with enough time before the holidays arrive.? Keep in mind that, as the holidays approach, more and more people will be shopping online, so shipping times may be extended and you may not receive your order as quickly as you normally would.? Not only do the sites themselves become backed up with orders, but the holiday season is very tough on the postal service as well.? Make sure to read the estimated delivery time for your order, and pay extra to guarantee faster shipping, if necessary.

Whether you are looking for gifts for family and friends or stocking fillers for women and children, just about anything you can get in stores is also available online, and you can find great deals without the hassle of having to drive to the store, work your way through crowds, and wait at the checkout lane.

Advanced cancer patients overoptimistic about chemotherapy's ability to cure, study finds

ScienceDaily (Oct. 24, 2012) ? Findings from a nationwide study led by researchers at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute suggest that patients with advanced lung or colorectal cancer are frequently mistaken in their beliefs that chemotherapy can cure their disease.

The study, published in the Oct. 25 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine, found that 69 percent of patients with advanced lung cancer and 81 percent of patients with advanced colorectal cancer did not understand that the chemotherapy they were receiving was not at all likely to cure their disease. Their expectations run counter to the fact that although chemotherapy can alleviate pain and extend life in such patients by weeks or months, it is not a cure for these types of advanced cancer except in the rarest of circumstances.

The findings come from the Cancer Care Outcomes Research and Surveillance Consortium (CanCORS), a large nationwide study sponsored by the National Cancer Institute to understand many facets of cancer care in the United States. The study's lead author is Jane Weeks, MD, MSc, who is the CanCORS Consortium's scientific chair and is director of the McGraw/Patterson Center for Population Sciences at Dana-Farber, professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and Professor of Health Policy and Management at Harvard School of Public Health.

The study was conducted by surveying 1,274 patients at hospitals, clinics and treatment centers across the country and by undertaking comprehensive review of their records. Study participants had been diagnosed with metastatic lung or colorectal cancer at least four months earlier and had received chemotherapy for their disease.

While previous studies had polled cancer patients about their perceptions of chemotherapy, this was the first to involve such a large and varied cross-section of the population. The study revealed that inaccurate expectations about the role of chemotherapy were found among patients from varied backgrounds treated in many different health care settings across the U.S.

Weeks noted that "If patients do not know whether a treatment offers a realistic possibility of cure, their ability to make informed treatment decisions that are consistent with their preferences may be compromised. This misunderstanding may pose obstacles to optimal end-of-life planning."

Surprisingly, patients who rated their communication with their physician highly were the most likely to hold overoptimistic views about chemotherapy's curative potential. While there is no doubt that communication about prognosis in advanced cancer is challenging, a sizeable minority of study participants did grasp the incurable nature of their cancers. Study co-author Deborah Schrag, MD, MPH, said that "skilled clinicians can set realistic expectations without their patients' losing either hope or trust." However, further research will be necessary to identify strategies to help physicians more consistently set realistic expectations and thereby help patients make good decisions about their care.

Other study co-authors include Paul Catalano, ScD, Angel Cronin, and Jennifer Mack, MD, MPH, of Dana-Farber; Matthew Finkelman, PhD, of Tufts University; and Nancy Keating, MD, MPH, of Brigham and Women's Hospital.

Apple unveils new iPad, plus new Macs

Published: Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at 2:07 p.m.
Last Modified: Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at 2:07 p.m.

SAN JOSE, Calif. | Apple introduced a smaller iPad, as expected, but also updated its full-sized one. It also unveiled new Mac computers, including a 13-inch version of a MacBook Pro with sharper, ?Retina? display.

With a screen measuring 7.9 inches on the diagonal, the iPad Mini is about half the size of the regular iPad. It?s slightly larger than the 7-inch tablets from Amazon.com Inc. and Google Inc. The regular iPad is 9.7 inches.

Apple has sold more than 100 million iPads since their debut in April 2010. Although Apple dominates the worldwide tablet market with 70 percent of shipments in the second quarter, according to IHS iSuppli, Amazon and Google have been able to make in-roads with the smaller alternatives. A smaller iPad from Apple Inc. could help the company cement its dominance.

The event at the California Theatre comes a few days before Microsoft Corp. starts selling a new version of its Windows operating system, one designed to work well on both traditional computers and tablets. Microsoft is also releasing its own tablet, the Surface, on Friday. It will be slightly larger than the full-sized iPad.

Here?s a running account of Apple?s event, presented in reverse chronological order. All times are PDT. Presenters include Apple CEO Tim Cook and Philip Schiller, the senior vice president for worldwide marketing.

???

10:55 a.m.

The smaller iPad has a 7.9-inch screen, digitally reversed from the full-sized iPad?s 9.7 inches.

Schiller said all of the software designed for the original iPad will work on the smaller one, as the display is 1024 by 768 pixels ? the same as the original iPad.

The latest, full-sized iPad has a sharper screen at 2048 by 1536 pixels.

???

10:52 a.m.

After much anticipation, Schiller unveils the iPad Mini.

?You can hold it in one hand,? he said. It?s not just a shrunken down iPad. It?s an entirely new design.?

???

10:50 a.m.

Apple unveiled a new iPad, but it?s a full-sized version ? an update to the third-generation device that went on sale in March. It promises a faster processing chip and faster wireless Wi-Fi connectivity.

It will also sport the new connector that Apple unveiled with the new iPhone 5 last month. Apple says the new connector helps the company keep up with modern times, but it also requires consumers to buy new accessories or an adapter.

Prices remain the same, starting at $499.

Apple says it sold its 100 millionth iPad two weeks ago. That means it sold about 16 million since the end of the second quarter, the last time it released a figure.

Cook discussed how teachers have been using iPads in their classrooms and said electronic textbooks through iBooks are now available for 80 percent of the high school curriculum. It was a sign Apple was looking to challenge Amazon.com Inc., which has been pushing textbooks on its Kindle devices.

???

10:40 a.m.

The audience cheered as Schiller unveiled new iMac computers. It looks like a super-thin display screen, but Schiller noted that ?there is an entire computer in here.?

There will be models with Apple?s new fusion drive. That?s a combination of the traditional, spinning hard drive and one using ?flash? memory. Flash is faster, but capacity is smaller. Schiller says the fusion drive will have the speed of flash and the capacity of regular hard drives.

They will come in two display sizes. The 21.5-inch version starts at $1,299, and the larger one at $1,799. They will be available in December.

As he introduced the new iMacs, he showed on a giant display how the iMac has shrunk over the years.

???

10:25 a.m.

Schiller teased audience by talking about the Mac Mini, not an iPad Mini.

?You knew there would be something called ?mini? in this presentation,? he said to laughter.

A new Mac Mini starts at $599 and comes with 4 gigabytes of RAM, or working memory, and a 500 GB hard drive for storage. A $999 version comes with a terabyte hard drive, or double the capacity.

???

10:20 a.m.

After touting growth in Mac computers at a time when sales of Windows-based machines are slowing, Apple introduced a new MacBook. In June, Apple introduced a MacBook Pro that is about as thin as its already-slim MacBook Air, but with a sharper display. That model had a 15.4-inch screen.

At Tuesday?s event, Schiller unveiled a smaller version, with a screen of 13.3 inches. He noted that the 13.3-inch MacBook Pro that Apple already makes has been the company?s top-selling laptop. The new version adds the sharper display and is thinner and lighter than the regular MacBook Pro.

?In typical Apple fashion, we are going to take our best product and introduce something better and much cooler,? he said.

The starting price is $1,699.

???

10:15 a.m.

Cook began the presentation with a customary update on past products.

Cook talked about the success of the iPhone 5 and the new iPod Touch, both released last month. He said there have been 3 million iPod Touches sold.

He also talked about an upgrade to Apple?s software for mobile devices, iOS 6. He said there were now 200 million devices running iOS 6.

He said the app store had more than 700,000 apps, including 275,000 for the iPad. Customers have downloaded more than 35 billion apps, he said.

He touted an e-book app called iBooks and announced a new version with a new reading option: continuous scrolling. With that, you keep scrolling down the screen rather than flip pages to keep reading. You can also tap on a quote to share instantly on Facebook or Twitter.

???

10 a.m.

The event opens with Cook appearing on stage. ?We have some fond memories here, and we?re going to create a few more today,? he told the audience.

Your Freedom is GONE | Want It Back? | AkosFintor.net

Your Freedom is Gone But You CAN Get it BACK

There are so many reasons to become a home based business owner; to become the part of the network marketing community.

Of course, most people I know in the industry got into this niche because of the lifestyle that a successful home based business can provide with.

To tell you the truth, that?s what got me joining too.

But the lifestyle is just the a surface layer of the main reason.

Do you know why (at the core level) the people joining the network marketing industry?

It?s because of?FREEDOM.

Do you remember what it was like when you started out, or you were about to join an MLM company?

If you were like me, you had pictures of your own self having a ton of free time, doing the things you want to do, when you want to do them; surrounded by your loved ones having fun.

Isn?t that life is all about?

Having fun and joy.

We don?t want to take orders from somebody, we don?t want follow instruction, we don?t want to listen. We want to live our lives by our own terms. And when we don?t do that, we are not too satisfied and we feel that something is missing.

We don?t want to worry, we want to be free of worry

We were born free, but somehow along the way we forgot that. We followed our parents? and peers? way of living. Which is go to school, get good grades, get a great job, raise a family and pay our taxes.

But originally it was NOT our idea of how we waned to live.

Originally we wanted to live freely as a bird; or more like a caveman.

Think about it! All a caveman did was the very basic things like: hunt, eat, sleep, gaze in the fire. He did all that freely, in complete FREEDOM.

And humans as species, we carry in our DNA?s a doze of FREEDOM. We can?t help it, that?s what we are wired to wish.

So what network marketers sell is not a product, money or lifestyle but FREEDOM.

Money may not buy you happiness but it can buy your a certain level of FREEDOM.

Are you ready to free yourself?

If so, click here and set yourself free.

Let me know what you think.

Earnings Preview: Arch 3Q profits seen lower

ST. LOUIS (AP) ? Arch Coal Inc., one of the world's biggest coal producers, is scheduled to report earnings for the third quarter before the market opens on Friday.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: Analysts may be especially interested in Arch's performance in recent months because of the headwinds coal miners have faced from weaker demand in the global economy. The coal industry and its stocks have been battered as utilities switched to cheap natural gas from coal to generate electricity. Natural gas prices earlier this year reached the lowest levels in years because of booming production. Lately those prices have risen, buoying optimism that power plants increasingly will switch back to coal.

Arch's latest earnings may reflect its June announcement that it was laying off about 750 workers in the Kentucky, Virginia and West Virginia coalfields. Arch blamed the move on market pressures and a challenging regulatory environment that it said has pushed U.S. coal consumption to a 20-year low.

Among the first of the coal sector's big players to report each quarter, rival Peabody Energy ? the world's biggest private-sector coal company ? on Monday said its third-quarter profit plummeted 84 percent, marking the third quarter in a row it posted lower net income. But the company, which had adjusted results for the July-September period that still topped Wall Street expectations, said it sees the global market stabilizing.

Peabody projected that U.S. coal demand will decline by about 120 million tons this year but insisted that most of that drop-off already has happened.

Arch this week got a legal victory in Montana, where the state's Supreme Court ruled that a board headed by the governor didn't violate the state Constitution when it leased 587 million tons of coal without an environmental review. But the high court, affirming a lower court ruling in a lawsuit brought by the Sierra Club and other groups, found that environmental studies still must take place before Arch can mine more coal.

WHY IT MATTERS: On the heels of Peabody's relatively bullish outlook about global coal markets, analysts likely will be eager to hear whether Arch plans any additional pullbacks or alters its earnings guidance for this quarter and the rest of the year.

WHAT'S EXPECTED: On average, analysts polled by FactSet expect Arch to report an adjusted loss of 15 cents per share on revenue of $1.02 billion.

EARLIER SHOWING: Arch had a loss of $435.5 million, or $2.05 per share in the second quarter, compared with a profit of $6.3 million, or 4 cents per share, a year earlier. Excluding one-time costs, Arch reported an adjusted loss of $22 million, or a dime per share ? better than the loss of 18 cents expected on Wall Street.

Arch's second-quarter revenue rose 8 percent to $1.06 billion.

LAST YEAR'S QUARTER: During last year's third quarter, Arch's profit fell well short of expectations, partly because of a mine closure and Midwest flooding. Net income was $19 million, or 9 cents per share, down from $46.7 million, or 29 cents per share, a year earlier. Adjusted income was 8 cents per share, still short of the 22 cents per share that analysts forecast. Revenue rose 37 percent to $1.20 billion.

STOCK PERFORMANCE: Arch shares dropped nearly 11 percent during the third quarter.

5 Ways to Child Proof Your Kitchen | Toddler Times

childproof 5 Ways to Child Proof Your KitchenWe have recently moved into temporary housing, as we are in transition between homes. Our last house, we called home for 10 years. We had our 4 kids there, so by the time our fourth child rolled around ? the house was already childproofed.

This one has nada in the way of childproofing. We were fine the first week, no major incidents regarding the toddlers and then our little one Zeke discovered the kitchen.?Disastrous, I Tell You! ?

The pantry has been raided and apparently he thinks muffin mix tastes good. (He somehow managed to open 2 boxes.) The cleaning supplies that once lived under the kitchen sink have been relocated to a closet shelf. The broom now lives in the garage. Since we?re not living here for long, I hate to childproof the whole kitchen. So, for now, our temporary solution is a baby gate. He has yet to learn to scale it, so it will work for the time being. Once we get into the new place, I know the kitchen and stairs will be the first to be child proofed!

So what should you child proof in the kitchen? Here?s a list of 5 places that I?d start. Curious?little ones can make you want to childproof just about everything, but let?s go basic.

DuPont to cut 1,500 jobs as economy worsens

Tue Oct 23, 2012 8:46am EDT

(Reuters) - DuPont (DD.N) slashed its annual forecast, reported a lower-than-expected quarterly profit and announced 1,500 job cuts on Tuesday, bleak signs that demand for the chemical company's lucrative paint and solar products is slipping around the world.

Shares of DuPont, a member of the Dow Jones industrial average .DJIA, fell nearly 7 percent in premarket trading.

The job cuts by the company, which also makes Kevlar bulletproof fiber and Corian countertops, marks one of the more extreme reactions to slipping demand and global economic uncertainty so far in this earnings season.

DuPont's sales fell 9 percent to $7.4 billion in the third quarter, while analysts on average had expected $8.15 billion.

Demand fell most sharply in Asia and Europe, hurt by higher prices for titanium dioxide, a key pigment used to make paint and a market DuPont dominates, and pastes used to make solar panels.

Trying to reassure Wall Street, DuPont Chief Executive Officer Ellen Kullman said executives were "addressing these challenges now to position ourselves for improved performance."

The company posted net income of $10 million, or a penny per share, compared with $452 million, or 48 cents per share, a year earlier.

Excluding one-time items, DuPont earned 32 cents per share, while analysts on average had expected 46 cents, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

The company plans to lay off 1,500 employees around the world, about 2 percent of its 70,000-person workforce.

Roughly half of the layoffs are due to the weak economy, and DuPont took a one-time charge of $242 million to pay out severance to workers.

The other half of the layoffs are connected to DuPont's August sale of its slow-growing car paint business to investment firm Carlyle Group LP (CG.O) for $4.9 billion.

Carlyle did not need some legal, human resource and other support staff previously used by DuPont to manage the car paint business. DuPont took a $152 million charge in the third quarter for its plan to lay off some of those employees.

DuPont cut its 2012 profit outlook to a range of $3.25 to $3.30 per share, below the $3.93 that Wall Street has forecast.

The company had expected to earn the equivalent of at least $3.79 per share for the year. Its previous forecast of at least $4.20, issued before the deal to sell the car paint business, included that unit's expected profit of at least 41 cents.

Shares of DuPont were down 6.6 percent at $46.49 in trading before the market opened.

Stocks recoup losses in late rally on Wall Street

NEW YORK (AP) ? A late buying spree erased early losses on Wall Street, leaving indexes with modest gains at the close of trading.

The Dow Jones industrial average came back from a 108-point deficit to end the day up two points at 13,346 on Monday.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index closed up less than a point at 1,434. The Nasdaq composite index ended with a gain of 11 points at 3,017.

Stocks spent much of the day lower following a disappointing batch of earnings from companies including Hasbro, clothing maker VF Corp. and SunTrust banks.

Falling stocks slightly outnumbered rising ones on the New York Stock Exchange. Volume was in line with the recent average, 3.2 billion shares.

Samsung To Cut The Cord, End LCD Panel Supply Relationship With Apple

Image (1) apple_samsung.jpg for post 48054Samsung told The Korea Times on Monday that it will end its LCD panel supply relationship with Apple as of next year. That's according to a "senior Samsung source" who declined to be identified, citing insufficient margins owing to Apple's supply pricing strategy. Samsung's role in Apple's LCD supply chain has dwindled, but this puts a fine point on their collapsing relationship.
