Why do you need travel insurance? | World Travel Blog

For many people travel insurance is seen as an optional extra on holidays, but is this the way it should be? Do holiday makers really need travel insurance and is it simply a way for companies to get a bit extra money out of us?

The simple answer to this is no. Travel insurance is there to help holiday makers should they need it; like every other type of insurance, we hope we will never need to use our travel insurance cover but when we do we are glad it is there. It doesn?t have to be expensive either. You can find endsleigh cheap travel insurance at their website for example.

So what type of things can go wrong on holiday? First of all there is the classic case of missing luggage. It is a fairly common occurrence ? either someone picks up your bag by mistake or your suitcase jets off to a completely different location. Nine times out of ten you will get your bag back, but what if you don?t? This is where travel insurance is important, as any items you have lost will be replaced, including electrical items such as cameras, and even cash.

We all know one of the worst things that can happen on holiday is that you come down with a bug or end up injured. This is where British holiday makers realise just what a blessing the NHS is! Without travel insurance holiday makers end up paying for every procurer from x-rays to consultations, and these can run into the hundreds of thousands of pounds. With travel insurance you are covered and won?t have to pay these costs.

Another great reason to take out holiday insurance is in case your holiday is cancelled. This is covered both if you cancel it and also if the holiday company you booked it through goes bust and cancels it. Paying off a holiday for months after you have been is depressing enough ? so imagine paying off a holiday you never went on!
